Tongits is a premier 3-player rummy game deeply rooted in Filipino culture. Unlike pure games of chance, Tongits rewards tactical memory, card counting, and timely bluffing. Players aim to minimize the point value of unmatched cards in hand or empty their hand completely.
Core Game Concepts & Terminology
- Melds (Bahay): Valid combinations of cards—either 3 or 4 of a kind or sequential cards of the same suit (Straight Flush, min 3 cards).
- Sapaw: Attaching a card to another player's exposed meld. Attaching a Sapaw card prevents that opponent from calling "Fight" on their next turn.
- Fight (Challenger Call): Declaring a showdown when you believe your unmatched hand points are lower than all competitors.
- Burn (Sunog): Failing to expose at least one valid meld before someone calls Fight or empties their hand. A burned player forfeits their stake entirely.
